Which non-profit literacy partners does Better World Books work with?

Our literacy partners are credible, well-established, non-profit organizations with proven operating backgrounds. Our four main partners are Books For Africa (www.booksforafrica.org), Room To Read (www.roomtoread.org), the National Center for Family Literacy (www.famlit.org), and the World Education & Development Fund (www.worldfund.org). Aside from truckloads of books, we have donated/pledged more than $1.3 million to our non-profit literacy partners.

How much money actually benefits the non-profit literacy partner?

If your organization does not have a charitable, literacy-oriented Foundation or does not have a working relationship with a local, regional or national non-profit literacy organization, your organization may designate one of our major literacy partners to be the beneficiary of the Community or Corporate Book Drive.

We donate 30% of net sales to your organization’s designated non-profit literacy partner. Net sales are defined as the sale price of the book minus any marketplace commissions. For example, a book sold on Amazon.com for $100.00 would have a net sale price of $85.00 (after Amazon.com’s 15% marketplace commission). Payments are made to your organization’s designated non-profit literacy partner every calendar quarter.

What are the responsibilities of our Organization?

Since you know how to motivate your volunteers or employees better than we do, we ask that you make a concerted effort to promote the drive. This includes designing/printing marketing materials to promote the drive. Aside from that, a successful drive requires minimal effort from a combination of staff and/or volunteers. At the conclusion of the drive, volunteers pack-up the materials collected for shipment to Better World Books—and of course, we pay for the shipping!
